The South African Students Congress welcomes the sentencing of Aubrey Manaka on the rape and murder of Precious Ramabulana, the 19year old student who was studying at the Ramokgopa campus of Capricorn TVET College.
It is shocking to learn that a young life was brutally ended in such a ruthless manner. A promising future permanently put on hold, dreams and aspirations killed by a menace of society.
Law Enforcement reports that Manaka pleaded guilty and was sentenced by the Limpopo High Court earlier today to eight years for robbery with intent to rape, two life terms for both rape and murder, as well as 15 years for robbery with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
We reiterate our firm stance against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide and make a strong call for all perpetrators to be prosecuted harshly. Young women must feel safe in society and campuses must be a safe spaces for all students.
